A general question for STEMfags, particularly engineers: how incompetent does someone have to be to get fired from a staff engineering position making ~$75k to falling back on a job making ~$55k as an engineering technician?

If you saw this on a resume would you conclude that the individual must be incompetent? Or is another explanation equally probable? Should I hire this person?

Need more info. What field? Years of experience?

Sounds bad though.

idk man, depends a bit on how long you were at that first job and how you can play it off.

sometimes people get new jobs, tehy pay less, and they stay because they A) like it, or B) are too lazy to both work and apply for more jobs.

that being said, engineering is project based for the most part isnt it? so isnt it possible to say that the first job wasnt one you liked so much?

also is the value of the first job common knowledge? cuz unless oyu bring up pay idk how they'd know

Civil engineering.

Basically they interned, went to a different company, stayed a few years (they knew the boss's daughter which is how they got the job according to the rumor mill), got fired, got the engineering technician job that they're trying to move out of.

About 3 years experience.

It's hard to tell. Maybe he needed money and accepted any job? Maybe this new company requires new hires to start at that level? Maybe he's a shitty engineer and couldn't land a staff position?

I'd go with your gut instinct. How was he in the interview?

Best case scenario, IMO, is that he was desperate for money or another job. which still isn't a good position.

More like she. She lists her sorority on her resume. She doesn't seem like the sharpest tack. Her daddy is a retired (exiled) politician.
