So i accidentally dropped orange juice on my "friend's" laptop and now he is asking me to pay 1650 CAD for the repairs which include the entire laptop which he overpriced on me and the additional fee for the stupid overpriced keyboard he bought so he wouldnt have to use the laptop's cause of "gaming purposes"
Can i be taken into court and land 6 months in jail for accidentally spilling the substance which he neglected to clean after a substantial amount of time?
Some additional information is this; me and other people informed him about the rice container trick to remove the moisture from the computer after turning it off which he declined to try out. Then we informed him of someone who would fix the entire laptop for free and even clean up the inside of it. Which he has neglected to do for several days now and at this point i want to tell him to fuck off.
If i get prosecuted for spilling orange juice it would looks something like this
"Local man Anon gets jail time for accidentally spilling orange juice on friend's laptop"
Can something like this actually happen? first of all i know that i can get charged with mischief but it would fall into mischief under since the property lost does not exceed over $5000 in damage repairs but please do educate me on this matter. can i be safe in telling him to fuck off and never talk to me again or do i have to pay him off to avoid any sort of charge? my career path would be devastated if i got a criminal offense on my record so this is rather serious to me.
