Hello /adv/isors, I have a problem with my PC desktop. I think its windows related. It boots up as normal, welcome screen goes as normal and then it gets to show the basic desktop, and as it loads something, the screen goes black with "No signal" message. It stays that way random amount of of time, sometimes the black screen just blinks and other times it may take up to an hour or more till it "wakes up". It never does eventually and requires hard reset. Rinse, repeat, same thing. It has been recently reinstalled. The PC itself is quite old.

Specs:
Core2duo E8400 3.0Ghz
Nvidia Geforce 260GTX
4 Gigs of DDR2 RAM

I tried replugging graphics card, and reinstall its drivers, didnt seem to help. I have resocketed the RAM, also without much success. So far, I am at a loss, so any tips, you guys might have, are handy.

the problem is probably your computer monitor/monitor wires. check first if they are not faulty. you should consider using another computer monitor
>>
I recently bought a new monitor, Cables shouldnt be faulty, as it happens only once per bootup and then works fine. If it was cable issue, it would "no signal" more than once, i think.

I had this same problem. It ended up being my video drivers. I bought a korean monitor from ebay and my pc didn't seem to like it. choosing different video drivers helped me in resolving this.

what kind of monitor is it?

Its BenQ, dont remember the type, Idk about the drivers, as there is only one official type of a driver for Nvidia GPUs that i know of.

Does your mobo have internal graphics? If it does, take your gfx card out completley and see if the problem persists. If not, your only other options are to either put your card in another machine and see if the problem occurs, or to put another card that you know works properly in to yours. There isn't really anoy other way of doing the diagnostics for a problem like this.

Monitors don't just go blank when there's a cable fault. They either go in to self test mode, or at the very least they'll tell you via an on screen display that there's a connection fault.

No, this mobo doesnt have an internal gfx unfortunately. And the other mobo i have doesnt have PCI-E yet.
