Don't try to meet girls. Don't even try to meet people.

Look for things to do. Join a club, take a class, go to concerts, hang out at the comic book store. Do it just for the fun of it.

There will be other people doing the same thing, and chatting about what you're doing will be easy and natural. Andd some of them you'll get along with and maybe go out for a beer with.
