In highschool, few people talked to her, and everyone thought she was shy (and she was) but it wasn't because she was timid or scared. She gave zero fucks about how people would react. she just had low self esteem due to an abusive relationship and so she just assumed nothing she could say would matter to anyone, so why bother.
She's grown out of that as she got her confidence back, since the guy is out of the picture.
