I think it might be a symptom of a deeper internet addiction and I honestly think if might be a good idea to completely abstain from the internet for a while, disconnect my pc and put it away for a good long time

I can actually help you here. For about 4 months I stopped looking at porn. I got a girlfriend, a job, a ton of friends and whats more, a life. Previously I was on the computer all day, fapped once a day minimum, but usually two or three times. My fetishes got worse and worse, too. Look up "your brain on porn". That shit's all true. I didn't even try to get a life, I just stopped fapping and got off the computer if I didn't have something I specifically wanted to do.

Just porn and mindless scanning (browsing without intent). I'd still play vidya if I wanted to, or go on 4chan if there was something I wanted to post about. But once I got to that point where it was just scanning pages to kill time, I got off the computer and did something else.

Nah it's not, you just have to be strong. The less you're around the computer, the less you think about looking for fap material. I relapsed a couple times, and I would be fucking furious with myself instead of that usual guilt. Self frustration is a good fuel for change.

What I mean to say is that it's not a problem when people find a folder full of porn: what's a problem is if that folder can be undeniably linked back to you. This is the real risk in storing it locally: if someone finds porn on your machine, then you are almost certainly the one who put it there. Tracing it back to you becomes so trivial that most people forget that it's even a distinct step.
The fact that people finding porn isn't the problem, though, works to your advantage. Because of that, it's quite easy to find. All the porn you could possibly want is a few clicks away, with a search term or two added at worst. Set your cache and history properly, and get it that way, where the people you're worried about catching you will be unable to.
