There's the ignorant route - like the US mentality where you vote for your own self interests rather than for what's best for everybody. But that will just make you feel like a massive douche.

The other route would be to get a real grip on reality (you know, the universe and other stuff that sounds cheesy). You will probably still be nice because it's effortless, but you might not "love" others or mind much at all outside of your own life.
