Even the art of that era that did display fatter women doesn't mean most women of the era were fat. Much of the art was for rich people, whom could afford to sit around getting fat. Or for the commoners who aspired to one day be rich enough to just sit around getting fat. The fact is, obesity is a relatively new phenomenon. Even just a few decades ago #5 would have stood out as a fatty. Go back much more than 100 years and women like her were pretty uncommon.

Men do want curvy women. The problem is that fat girls have hijacked the term "curvy". It used to include pic-related. Beyonce is basically just a more muscular, athletic version of that curvy and tons of guys would consider her ideal.
What men don't want is fat chicks, regardless of whether or not those fat girls lie to themselves and say they're curvy. #5 in the OP is probably less curvy than #2. #5 is about as curvy as #1. Having a fat ass doesn't make them curvy if they also have a fat waist.
