Assuming you aren't in a warzone or something just aask people you know, old people especially and see that very very few have ever had a truly terrible thing happen while walking down a street.

Not OP here, but I thought I lived in a decent neighborhood when a kid a couple years younger than me got stabbed 4 blocks (HUGE BLOCKS THO) down from where I live. Then my homie got mugged for his film equipment in broad fucking day light by some cholo motherfuckers. I used to be somewhat comfortable walking alone around 7-9, but not anymore.

OP, its pretty hard to die by stab wound. Like even getting stabbed in the heart has a 1/3 chance of survival.

General tips though, pay attention to your surroundings. Notice if someone is starting to get close to you and start to move to more well lit area.

I look forward at the ground for shadows ( city always has lights on), I walk with purpose (like I'm going to an exact place for an exact time), and I avoid going through areas that may restrict me. It's not so much avoiding the people, its avoiding the places where people can take advantage.

No one's going to stab you for literally no reason.

Carry a firearm(suggested), large hammer, or even a machete. Otherwise you're screwed. Larger weapons seem to work well against a knife, think katana.
