Because, at least in the US, a lot of teachers have seen their jobs completely transformed thanks to No Child Left Behind, Common Core and creased standardized testing. I read many articles where teachers have complained that their job is no longer about helping kids, but about catering to bureaucracy. Kind of soul sucking.

It depends on many factors like other jobs - work conditions, co-workers. You also have the parents and kids. My wife taught for years. It wore on her a bit but she was quite dedicated to her job and put a good amount of effort into it (you don't have to in many instances).

I have two friends who are teachers, they got an online degree at a mickey mouse online school which is not even accredited, one of them has a pretty bad speech impediment and his only saving grace is that he is good with kids.

Depending on what you teach grading papers can be a breeze. What are multiple choice tests and single answer questions. Hell, you can do a lot of it during class while your students are busy. Also what are scantrons for tests.
If you're an English teacher or something that requires more articulate answers and have to read papers. You probably got an that English degree because you like writing or enjoy the subject.

Well, teachers are basically employees of the state they work in.
It becomes pretty difficult in the US, especially in Southern states, where the government forces you teach things like creationism in science class.
I don't think the stress really comes from the job itself (although I'm sure a portion of it does), but it's more what you are legally required to do. Teaching has become stressful because of the rigorous standardized testing focus.
Teachers want to teach, but instead are trying to make students memorize meaningless crap, at the expense of real things like science, art, music, languages, and so on.

Nah I substituted for a while and k-6 is awful. They are fragile little things that you can't teach anything or parents get angry and make complaints. Middle and high school are alright, but you have to deal with a lot of bullshit and drama, and the occasional threat against you
If you're a high school teacher you have to deal with smartasses all day, making projects for kids, making tests, grading stuff on time, doing work during school and at home, then you don't make enough money so you have to get another job either at a tutoring center or at a community college teaching as well, and the kids always talk shit about you and try to get you in trouble because you have them a bad grade since they don't try and their only excuse is "the teacher sucks"
