as for combatting ugliness, there is a lot you can do. most igrls arent all that hot but they work at it. men can and should do the same thing.

I dye my hair cuz i look better blond. i went on accutane cuz i looked bad with acne. i use microdermabrasion and moisturizer to make my skin look fresh. i go to the gym to get a better body.
you dont need to use make up but there are a lot o face products that essentially simulate the lighting you would look best in.

as for simply 'getting over' its as simple as not caring. you can force the change or you can't but theres no step or step guide that makes it happen.
if you still want to date, go ask out ugly girls. try to find osmeone with a good personality who still can entice a boner out of you. a lot of really ugly girls are desperate and will settle for any guy who will just treat them like a girlfriend.
