This was one of the aspects of SizeCon that had many of us raising our eyebrows too. But I think it's got less to do with "it's a rampant problem in the community" and more with "this is just the way these kinds of conventions are going, and because of the nature of it, we want to take some extra precautions to cover potential problems". Or some such?
Jit, and many others, have written before about issues of sexism and such within the community. It sounds like it's something they talk about fairly frequently during the monthly meetups, and from all accounts, they've never had any trouble with people sperging out there. So it's not something that necessarily needs to have a risk of happening in order for them to think it's worth discussing at such a panel.
I don't have the female's perspective, so it's hard to comment on a lot of this stuff. It's certainly not hard to find examples of people sperging out *online* and leaving shitty messages to women in the community. I can imagine it being, at the very least, an annoyance. But something being an annoyance online doesn't necessarily translate to it being a big problem IRL. There's a lot of self selection, hiding behind anonymity, etc, going on here. It's probably a good sign that it hasn't occurred at their meetups before either.
In all, I think this sort of "size fans are spergs!" attitude is really overblown. Those sorts of people certainly exist, and I wouldn't be surprised if some folks with poor social skills showed up at SizeCon ... but for the most part, the average participant is probably ... average. Just like any other regular person. And from what we're seeing so far, they haven't had any disruptive behavior.

Yeah, we used to be pretty good about posting (and I hope it's fair to say, producing) quality content. It's not being produced in high quantities, but we've had a few decades now to accumulate a fair bit of good work.
That said, with 4chan's apparent hatred of collages, it's hard to know what "quality" even means. I'm just curious to know how many people would actually be interested in new collage-based /hr/ giantess/size threads ... are there just the two of us?

That's not what happened.
Before everything splintered yesterday, the main giantess thread was titled "giantess/size". It was fine, nobody was complaining about the content (at least, no more than the usual /d/ complaints).
Then when it was nearing its limit, someone created a new thread simply titled "size". Someone went autist over the title and so created a new one called "giantess", then someone created yet another called "giantess/size". And as a result,trolls started spamming male content in all of them to fuck with everyone.
The male content in the current splintered threads is nothing more than trolling. There wasn't any overabundance of male content in the previous "giantess/size" threads, nor was there any outcry. People are just fucking with the current threads because of the nonsense that split them in the first place. In no time at all it'll settle back down, everyone will decide on which is the "giantess" thread, and everything will go on as normal ... until the next episode where someone decides to kick up a stink about what sort of content should/shouldn't be in the threads.

Yeah, and that's the problem. But for all the absolute awfulness that an anonymous image board creates by its very nature, this place still seems to have the most down-to-earth, not-completely-creepy people. And it's such a hilarious and tragic paradox. I just wish there were a place where we didn't have the total creepers and the psychopathic assholes that was just completely chill and we could talk about giant waifus and shit in peace. But until then, I guess I'm here forever.

I think that's just the nature of an anonymous message board. From the outside people just see a bunch of shitposting and the occasional "scary" stories from /b/ and the like. But otherwise, because it's anonymous, most posters aren't posting for reasons of their own ego, they're just here to post about stuff they like. And while you'll certainly get the odd creeper or psychopathic asshole (though, these show up on the other community websites anyway), the average poster is ... just that, an average person. And the average person simply isn't a creeper or psychopathic asshole.
Chan culture is chan culture. You'll always have people on /d/ who nitpick about posts/images, throw around the occasional overly dramatic post about content they don't like, and so on. But, eh, that's the nature of it. Shitposting is what it is.
But it usually isn't overly destructive. The threads will go back to normal. If anything, I find these kinds of silly little episodes kind of amusing ... but that might just be the shitposter in me speaking. :^)

True, but there's a level of self-awareness that I find lacking with most places that seems to exist in great number here. It's funny, but I often have the most interesting and intellectual discussions on fucking 4chan of all places. It's like these threads are the only place where I can find people who are happy to chat and aren't gonna be creepy or thirsty motherfuckers or whatever.

Although I'm not entirely convinced that anonymized posting removes ego, there is a level of detachment from usernames that could possibly drive people to not care as much, but I can't speak much for the psychology of other users on other forums or what drives them. I could just as easily point to the anonymous nature of 4chan as its biggest source of problems as well--no attachment means no consequences, and for some, they might as well not even be dealing with real people. And the biggest issue, I'd argue, is that one or two rogue elements have the capacity to do so much damage (as demonstrated) that it really just ruins the experience for the silent majority. Truth be told, my favorite sort of place would be something akin to an irc chatroom where the mods are only interested in upholding order and civility rather than flexing their power and fellating their own egos. I've been in rooms like that before, and it's wonderful.

We've had some pretty good discussions here in recent past. Heck, we had a good discussion about gender politics in the size threads around the time of Christmas, and the discourse was great. One of the better conversations I've seen on such a controversial subject ... on a 4chan fetish board of all things.

Absolutely this is true - and we do see it - but it's the sort of thing that seems to burns out pretty quickly. You can fuck up an entire thread with spam if you want, but there will always just be another thread. The ability for anyone to be destructive in any major way is limited by their attention span ... and attention spans are short.
But otherwise, yeah, some people are just going to be dicks to everyone because they can be. But that's just chan culture, all you can really do to help counteract it is to not act like that yourself. The "communities" formed around some threads are really great, and those around others are pretty terrible. All we can do is try our best to help promote the former.
It's a limitation of the platform, but it certainly doesn't seem to be destroying it. If nothing else, I like the variety that 4chan brings.

Again, true ... but at least the time it takes to "fix everything up" is usually only a day or so. If nothing else, 4chan's thread-based architecture makes it resilient to the sorts of nonsense we're seeing on /d/ right now.
