I feel like I need some backstory to explain why i side with the Institute. I ended up going with them on my first character because of Shaun, but at the end I had Piper as my companion and her chewing me out felt bad so I tried the other factions. The BoS made me feel like utter shit when I won because they're kinda worse in a few ways without any of the benefits. The Railroad just made me feel like, "yeah, now what" cus they just don't have any plans or goals beyond "fuck the institute, save synths". Maxon is just so irresponsible it's insane. They want to blow up the Institute, which contains an entire lab dedicated to hydroponics and regrowing the wasteland.
And then you have the railroad, who are so misguided that they believe destroying the institute will save the synths. The Institute is the only place that can build, repair, program, and maintain the synths, destroying it would undermine the entire goal of the Railroad.

I was over-leveled as well so I gave myself a handicap of no power armor, 1 pre-DLC laser and 1 ballistic weapon and the fully upgraded Silver Shroud outfit. It made me rely on modding Ada more and lengthened it out a bit more. The only time I had to break my power armor rule was for the dumb horde wave battle at the end. The story isn't really worth it unless you go 100% speak as the Shroud.

I just beat it. Was also rather overleveled even tho I was only lv 30ish. Only died a few times due to legendary robots blowing up in my face and a couple of turrets and such being more powerful than I'd expected and shredding me. Also the horde fight was pretty piss easy for my blitzing melee character with like 12 base strength.
Customization of the robots is pretty neat, but I really need to farm some ceramic to play with it a bit more.
The Assaultron helmet is the sexiest thing ever and I'm really fucking disappointed in the robot melee weapons being shit and have shitall upgrades I've been using my Grognak's axe for most of my playthrough as it's almost as good as basically anything else while having pissall ap cost to use.

That's where the issue lies.
If they were more human, then it would be fine, but they are first and foremost weapons designed for infiltration.
Look at the Art random event, where a synth and his target are locked in a standstill. You can convince them to settle down and diffuse the situation, whereby the Synth Art draws a pistol on you starts firing, despite earlier acting as if he was unarmed.
You can't just release these weapons into the Commonwealth without keeping tabs on their actions. You would be releasing ultra-trained assassins and spies into a world where people barely trust each other as it is, they could rather easily kill and replace every human and ghoul within a matter of months
This whole idea was initially where the Brotherhood stood on the matter, but Maxson had to go fuck it up and destroy the institute, which only grants access to the now scattered tech to scavengers, making it even worse.
I spent more time creating new robots for all the settlements than I did on the DLC quest.

Most g3 synths do various labor tasks. Cleaning, being lab assistants, working salvage teams. g2 synths are fine for most combat situations, with a Courser occasionally being used to leader teams of g2s or doing solo work for the institute. Eh. I really liked it. Especially since the Silver Shroud quest line was in vanilla to act as a point of comparison to the mechanist's motives, plus Fo3's goofy superhero questline also being a nice point of comparison.
Wastelanders looking at the prewar cape comics and being inspired to take up their mantles and do SOMETHING is a fantastic concept, and one I think Bethesda did rather well every time they've done it.
My only complaints story wise is that there really isn't much going on with the rust devils. Would have liked to engage their leader in conversation. Also they need a bigger presence in the wasteland. Cus I've only seen them at their base and near the factory that had the first transponder.

It's not too much of a problem. You get so many cores early-mid way through the game that unless you're in your suit 24/7, even when not needing it (I.E. Building Settlements, dealing with molerats, running circles to trade with shops) you will never have a shortage of Fusion Cores.
Hell, they're good money once I got Physicist. Any more than 10 cores? Sell. Get rich.
I also like to think that because we keep modding the power armor, and we get in fights, that power flow is seriously fucked up. Like an over charged iPhone.
