SL works like a videogame. Videogames use small textures and limit the number of polygons you need to render at any time to keep framerates up.
People in SL use as many as textures and polygons as they can and then complain how poorly SL runs.

The SL body texture is not even 2K for a whole av, its 2 1K sets.
Most Skyrim mods are 4K, and the CBBE body meshes are higher polycount than Belleza AFAIK.
The SL client literally just shits itself on high-quality assets.
