For beginners, I recommend Loomis and Hampton. There's also 'Drawing with the right side of your brain' but I haven't read that so I can't stand by it.
If you've skill under your belt, there's Scott Robertson and Burne Hogarth. If animation's your thing, there's the Animator's Survival Kit but keep in mind that animation would also require knowledge of drawing.
Then there's the fundamentals. Perspective, value, form and composition. Composition is very intuitive so a new artist may not have the feel for it. Perspective on the other hand is very technical and has little left to intuition so it's pretty good for new artists to concentrate on. Value and form go hand in hand. Value is basically how light or dark and object is and form is the 3d shape of the object. Basically, value and form is how the light reacts to shapes and surfaces. Color is a subset of value. Only move onto colors when you have your values in line. So if you're a new artist, here's the priority of importance with regards to the fundamentals from highest to lowest:

If you're serious about drawing, be prepared to feel like shit every time you draw especially if you're starting out. That will never go away.

Remember to take everything I say with a grain of salt because I am a massive gay faggot.
The tl;dr is you aren't liking what's coming out because you don't have a very solid idea of what you actually /want/ to see. As in you've a basic idea ("Midna taking a huge cock") but when you try to really visualize it in your head it's a tad fuzzy yeah? Where's that right leg? What pose is the left arm in? Etc etc. That's just a mental thing that you'll grow out of in time, don't let it discourage you. If you want to speed up the process, get into the habit of really seeing things when you're out and about your regular day, not just looking at them. Consciously examine buildings, your peers, etc while you're on your way to class. Drawing is as much a mental exercise as it is a manual one, and you needn't be sitting at your pen to add new tricks to your toolbelt.
That or you're reluctant to let go. You draw a little bit, frown because it's not up to par with what you want and then restart - eight attempts later you have something workable. There's nothing wrong with shoddily chunking together one part just to get a base down, then coming back to it and more or less redrawing the whole thing later to better fit the whole. Art isn't a linear process. Don't be afraid to skip around.
That said, ignore time. Take as many attempts as you need. It's better to take an overly long path than a shorter one, even if it takes you ages at first. You shouldn't be concerned with the end product or how long it takes you (unless you are explicitly trying to practice speed and nothing else). It's about the journey, not the destination.
And keep a positive mindset. Tell yourself "THIS IS GREAT" not "this is shit", regardless of your level or how it looks. Greatness and shitiness are relative, and flaws aren't what separates them. You're the best you there is, don't forget it.
Chin up and always aim higher, you can't climb up when you're staring at the ground.

There's a difference between being confident in yourself along with your faults and being one of those pissants with unwarranted self importance. The definition of good and bad wavers from person to person. Some pleb from DA might define "good" as anything with tits, I define "good" as a nice Rembrandt painting. They are both equally correct within the scope of the holder.
The point is that art is what you call it. Your picture might be trash compared to something like 'The Storm on the Sea of Galilee', but you'd be pulling apples and oranges to make that comparison. This doesn't mean you should be like one of those people who do "5 years of progress" pictures where the only difference is they have some minor anime influence and flaunt it like it's hot shit. This means you should keep a thick skin against comparative discouragement and push yourself /for yourself/, because the act of drawing is about /you/ and nobody else. Be your own leader. Make you own decisions. Even reading these posts you should be thinking "well I agree with this - I'll consider it, I don't agree with this though". YOU decide what to take away from any one pool of information.

I did a lot of graphic arts programs and they mix illustration and some life drawing stuff in with that. But i was never really that into drawing before so i know the theory. I just can't really apply it properly if that makes any sense.
