As far as the preferences you listed go, I think I'm pretty open. Only things that really come to mind are that I usually prefer shots of the soles and toes to just the toes or the tops of the feet. Even that can vary though, I really like this picture for example and there is no sole showing.
Dirt is fine when it accentuates and doesn't mask features.

Elena's personality and/or character design might not stand out as much as other characters, how she actually plays could also be a factor. Personally for a long while I didn't really give Elena much thought because I didn't know much about her personality and didn't care a whole lot about her design. Still wouldn't say she is in my top five, but I've warmed up to her a bit.
I don't associate smell or boots with dirty feet. Smell can just be the natural smell of the feet and the act itself, with boots you have their appearance, the possible combination of natural foot smell with the smells of the material, and maybe some other miscellaneous things. Dirty socks I'll concede usually seems to have more to do with dirty feet or them being unwashed than it does the socks just being dirty from walking around.

I think I'm similar in that over time certain characters have made me grow to like things over time.
