The first chapter started out pretty unconvincing. The plot makes it so that for some stupid reason no one wants to join his party just because he uses a shield and therefore he is weak. He is a prophesied hero summoned from another world.
And for all the trouble the king went through, he does not even allocate out the party evenly or help make the main character feels at home. So far the story seemed forced.
Hopefully, there is a reason behind this.
There are other better "main character goes to another world that resembles a RPG world" type of light novel out right now such as Mushoku Tensei and Legendary Moonlight Sculptor.
Don't know why there are so many novels of this same story lines being pumped out. It gets stale really quick.

I meant the party members. The king could have made it so that each hero would get the same amount of people serving. Even if the king didn't think that far, he should have done something about the resulting situation it so the shield hero doesn't feel left out. The same goes for the money too.

To be specific.The shield heroes tend to side with the beast races. The church doesn't like the beast races so as a result shield hero usually gets shit on. On the other hand the Shield Hero is usually the one that protects the people the most or something so even though he sides with the beast people, the common people tend to have a good opinion of him too. Something like that anyway.
Ironically their mistreatment of him caused him to basically follow in the path of his predecessors.
In the Gaiden story, through some time travel fuckery, Lance Hero ends up back at the start of the story and sides with Shield Hero at the start and the two of them adventure together.

But there's something about webnovel that I don't really like much, why the need for in-world game like mechanics ? This plus re:monster and a few other felt the need to make diegetic interfaces to explain how they have access to knowledge about themselves, are they supposed to BE in a game or just "that's how the world works we got character sheets, just roll with it" ?

Well 4 of the chapters were just korean raws. There's a lot more stuff going on in the novel it seems, like the Heroes all had a conversation and realized they were from different worlds and stuff.

There's MC and Laft as Gods protecting the two worlds, one world where MC and them are in the fantasy world and stuff goes on like him becoming a lord and stuff. The other is him and Laft living together in Japan and being together.

There's a lot of both real life and in game. For instance Weed inadvertently introduces the game to his swordsmanship master that he trained under. Which causes said Master to then spread it to the entire dojo and all 400 of them or however many there are I forget start playing.
Anyway yeah there's lots of real life scenes.

I read the first two chapters, it's pretty bad but I'll keep reading it for the time being.
I think the writing is the main weakness if we disregard the copy-paste setting, and to some extent, plot. The MC turns into an edgemaster quite quickly, I don't have so much of a problem with it because he got fucked with but it's a complete 180 from his previous personality. It's like they're different characters pretty much a page apart.
My final gripe is that shield. It looks like something from a Nintendo game 10 years ago, if you're going to make it a big and ever present part of the story then at least spend more than 2 minutes on a design. It looks shit.
