What is /a/'s opinion on Ranma 1/2? I'm not the only one who just can't get into it, right?

Like all of Rumiko's works, it starts out great then it goes on for 100 volumes and gets run into the fucking ground.

I used to a big fan. I got the first season for my 17th birthday, and it was one of the shows that turned me into an anime fan. I miss lengthy series like this that were more leisurely and character-based.

It's funny for a while, then runs the same jokes into the ground.
Also, it has the most unlikable main character couple I've ever seen in anything. Those cunts Ranma and Akane truly deserve each other.

She refuses to evolve her characters, or let them come to any resolution, so as a result everything gets stuck in a holding pattern of bullshit after awhile.
I still think that Ranma 1/2 inspired some of the best doujins and fanfiction out there though. But the series itself? After awhile it's awful, but a fun premise. It's still one of my favorites for early on, I just hate how it dies off slowly and painfully.

Akane's not as bad in the manga. Ranma's kind of an asshole no matter what the version, though.

She's a genius at that. The handful of stuff that's actually shorter is generally better. I think she just knows how to endlessly milk money out of a title if it happens to pick up some popularity.

That's not entirely true. Ryoga has a great character arc in the manga (goes from Ranma's rival to enemy to friend, gives up on Akane and finds a girlfriend elsewhere), and Mousse changes some too, passing up on a chance in the last story arc to have Shampoo fall in love with him. The main romance between Ranma and Akane never gets very far, though.
Some chapters are great, other not so. The longer battle arcs are usually boring.
