Mirage character is all about being strong and accepting cruelty and injustice of this world. Miragefaggots complain all the time that she didn't get any development, but they forget that she already got some. Remember her issues about being shit and not living to her parent's name? The problem with the love triangle is the fans and the shippers. Both are subjecting their feelings onto the characters. Most of the debate is either why Freyja should loose, or why Hayate should win.
In my honest opinion, I don't think this triangle is going to end the way everyone wants it to end, or with anyone winning. Perhaps it's because i'm not a fan of both Freyja and Mirage why I can evaluate what's happening clearly.
Nobody mentions Hayate, or his feelings. Hayate has made it clear, that if he likes someone he won't waste anytime and will tell them. Mirage even asked Hayate if he liked Freyja this episode, and he said no. Another problem is, everyone is automatically assuming Hayate's feelings for love. It's quite obvious that Freyja has feelings for Hayate, and Mirages feeling are also becoming more apparent. However Hayate's interaction with both of them isn't necessarily romantic. He see's both girls as his friend, but two very different and distinct friendships.
This triangle is leaning towards nobody winning. Mirage and Hayate will not be involved romantically at the end because she needs to find self worth first. I also don't trust the push with Freyja and Hayate, because Freyja is being built for something more.
This triangle cannot be compared with Frontier in any shape/form. The characters and circumstances are way too different.

Frontier had 25, for it's 25th Anniversary. Delta will have 26. It's successor will have 27 and so on.
And since the series succeeds itself every 8 years, that's plenty of time to develop the studios to push up to 30 episodes for a series.

Wishful thinking. It's a two-cour anime, they're nearly always 26 episodes long. Frontier deliberately cut one episode to make it 25, to go with the 25th anniversary. They went to great lengths to get that number in everywhere they could, such as airing it at 25:25 at night (1:25 AM), efforts they're not exerting this time (Delta airs nearly three hours earlier, at 22:30).
It is very likely that any future Macross TV shows will also be 25-26 episodes, unless Kawamori has a *shorter* story to tell. 27 episodes? Someone would have to move heaven and earth to get that cleared due to the havoc it'd wreak on the schedule.

That's too much of a stretch. Plus it's like we've already said millions of times. Freyja won't die or any of the like at the end of Delta. She's the cash cow. #1 fave.1/2 of the dynamic duo/face of Delta. The Fandom would riot.
Hayate/Freyja ending is pretty much a given at this point. The bias has been strong since like episode 4 when Hayate was all "my duty is to protect her!" Then you have the resonance. Then Hayate being the biggest Freyjafag out of all of us fangirling as soon as Freyja in in the scene. Always looking out for her. Always risking his life for her. Paying attention to everything she does and says. And now Hayate realizing that she's not just a friend and that she's something more.

It's actually more complicated than that and has to do with marketing. If it was Mikumo-Hayate-Freyja, one of the idols would have been hurt in sales. Just like how Ranka's CD's didn't sell much/she was the least marketable one.
By splitting Freyja and Mikumo apart they can milk both girls equally since fans won't rival over triangle shit. Both girls are liked since Freyja gets the spotlight in show, and Mikumo can clearly carry her popularity herself on her own with just raw character design.
Mirage needed the extra help, and it's not working They should have just stick with Mikumo for the main character though, even if she isn't apart of the bowl.
Heck, people would enjoy the show more if Mikumo was apart of the triangle, Freyja still getting the same development she is now and clearly winning. From the perspective of a love triangle, the viewer's attention is going to be diverted into the mystery of who Mikumo is, rather than living life to the fullest. If they force the short life on Mikumo also, that really would just be repeating the same thing that they did with Sheryl.
With Mirage though, there is this triangle of species with different life expectancies.
Hayate, with a normal life span, Mirage who can live much longer but seems to be wasting her time worrying about her complexes, and Freyja. My own guess is that what will happen to Freyja later, rather than Hayate, is what will cause Mirage to change.

The difference here is Hayate's not just blushing because of an awkward or accidentally lewd situation. He has a moment of realization in the middle of a very tender scene, combined with how he's already a gigantic Freyjafag who constantly thinks about her and worked very hard to give her a present that would make her happy. And he never really paid attention to anyone else. The scene doesn't read as a hint the he has a crush, like the first time Freyja blushed, but a full-blown "holy shit I might be in love."
