So how's the old backlog coming along?

I just finished Utena and Shiki, two shows with very heavy plots. I don't feel like going back into SOL or moeshit yet, so which of these should I knock out first?

Princess Tutu
Another
Death Parade
When They Cry
Rozen Maiden
Haibane Renmei
Tatami Galaxy
Noir
Last Exile
Chaika The Coffin Princess
Coppelion
Pandora Hearts
Corpse Princess

Don't watch PH, read it. The anime is awful and doesn't reach the really good parts.

>I'm going through Casshern Sins, pretty good so far.
Really? I hated it. It was if as an adult came up with the themes and setting and hired a couple of teens who just watched End of Eva and didn't get it as the writers.
Just my opinion though.
>>
>>144117681
There are plenty of legit good full OP and ED out there and even if they're all shit, they can still invoke nostalgia when you listen to them a few years after.
Also FLAC version is fucking hard to find for shows older than 2 years mate.
>>
>>144117691
The fact that you bring up Eva makes me think you were looking too deeply into it, the theme was a pretty simple message about finding the beauty in life while you can. Aside from that, it was extremely atmospheric, the art and OST were gorgeous, and the animation was quite good.

Just start samurai flamenco. Once you get on the ride never stops unto the very end. You can honestly skip rolling girls unless this I'd for.sure your kind of show. It was enjoyable but very poorly executed.

I had to put my backlog on hold during the inter-season period in order to rewatch SZS in time for the commemoration. And now I've tentatively picked up so much anime that I don't have time for my backlog at all, in fact seasonal anime keeps piling up. Send help.

The first things I'll watch when I break out of this loop are tactical roar and grisaia no kajitsu.
>>

If you have a good pair of headphone and DACs, yes.

I just finished Log Horizon S2, I love this shit so much but given my standards in anime I feel like I should hate it given it uses some of the most overused tropes ever for an anime but FUCK I want more.

I'm watching Doraemon, ChaCha, and Powerpuff Girls Z right now. They're all pretty great. Any good family friendly shows from more recent seasons though? /a/ rarely talks about them and I'm too busy to stay as current as I used to.
>>
>>144112227
Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Beebop
Evangelion after the third episode
Bakemonogatari after monkey
The old Berserk anime
Bokurano
Durarara!!

Which should I watch first?
>>
>>144112227
I'm working on Joshiraku right now actually. Got a couple of things to finish from last season like Sansha Sanyo and the trainwreck that is Mayoiga. Probably will start Osomatsu-san at some point because there are still constant threads about it.

Gonna try to use the summer to catch up on backlog because I'm not wowed by more than like 2 summer shows.

Still on HxH but I've only got like 19 episodes left, It's such a pain in the ass watching it when some of the episodes are just about nothing.

Probably start Magi or Mushishi next.
>>
>>144112227
It can't seem to make a dent in it. It's at 250 shows and still growing by the day.

I'm watching Shokugeki no Souma right now and planning on starting Rail Wars, Mayo Chiki and Sayounara Zetsubou Sensei after I finish it. After that'll come the three seasons of Working. Probably.
>>
Which one to start on Trigun, Outlaw Star, or Cowboy Beboop?
>>
>>144121868

How far are you? The ending does sort of tie things together nicely I guess, but the only real reason to enjoy this was for the pure unadulterated STYLE, not the story. Favorite episode?

Currectly watching K-On S2. I thought people were memeing when they said this is the best show they've ever seen, but it's legitametly that good.
Anyway, after i watch the movie should I watch Ping Pong or Mitchiko to Hatchin?
>>
Just finished Barakamon so I could watch Hanada-kun.

Honestly one of the best things I've ever seen and I am now very hesitant to watch Hanada-kun as it might just sully Barakamon.

>>

I'm so glad you like K-On!, it's my all-time favourite. Ping Pong is sick, watch Ping Pong. You'd be hard pressed to find a better show at that length.
>>
>>144123170
Masaaki Yuasa is the director of Ping Pong but he has also directed The Tatami Galaxy (Better than Ping Pong) and Kaiba (About the same). I would check out Tatami Galaxy before you watch Ping Pong.
>>
>>144123489
I tried watching it once a while back but the dialogue was moving so fast it was hard to keep up. I will try and give it another chance eventually though.

Is it just scenes from Barakamon or is it just something terrible?
>>
>>144122776
There's some legitimately nice animation in here but not a lot. This scene with this dragon looked really cool, few others so far. I have no idea who used to work for this studio and worked on this show sometimes but they were very good.

I hate my backlog, and it hates me.
It just keeps getting bigger and bigger. There's a lot of stuff that I'll probably drop, but it still needs to get thinned out.
>>
>>144123489
Why do you think Tatami Galaxy is better than Ping Pong? Like, I prefer it too but there's no obvious reason why it should be better or worse. I could easily accept anyone's favourite Yuasa being one of the two.
>>
>>144123886
It's terrible, it's a discussion that manga readers would only get and it lasts 9x times longer than it should because it has nothing to do with the actual show and just exists so they can end the first episode on a cliff hanger. I almost dropped the show because the opening scene was so shit but everything after that scene was pretty funny.

Never good news, always more problems. Being Aoi is suffering.

>>144127968
I think you can skip pandora. If it didn't thrill you from the beginning, you'll probably find it underwhelming. It's mostly episodic stories that showcase how cool this Shirowesque world is and how awesome these characters are. In the end it felt to me like it wasn't trying to go anywhere with that, even though it does have an overarching plot.

About 2/3 through both Hanasaku Iroha and Casshern Sins right now. Both of them are beautiful in every sense of the word. Hoping that the rest of my backlog ends up being as good as those two.
>>
No progress at all, just adding shows and not watching anything because I feel like I'll never watch all of it.
Started watching more films though working through Tarkovsky and Kubrick's discographies.
>>
>>144128886

Is Shirobako as good as Iroha? I really loved Iroha and consider it a modern classic, thought the movie was a little underwhelming but still decent. Is it at least on the same levels? Probably my favourite P.A Works series.
>>
>>144129010
They are equal, in my professional opinion
>>
>>144129010
I don't know how you jumped to the conclusion that I've seen Shirobako but right now I would say Shirobako is better than HanaIro. Of course this is based off of me not completely finishing HanaIro yet. I'd say Shirobako is a 9 and HanaIro (as of episode 18) is an 8.

Nanoha s1 & 2

Gen'ei
Utena
CCS
Symphogear
PMMM

Planning
Princess Tutu
Prism ilya

Maybe watch maybe skip
Sailor Moon
Rest of Nanoha
Precure
Creamy Mami
Aria

Not sure if I'm missing anymore big ones. Ill probably go prism and tutu and just move on to a different genre. I still have a couple psychologicals to watch. Is sailor moon worth? I dont really have much nostalgia for it and it seems a little too... traditional for my tastes. For reference my favorites from the completed list are CCS YuYuYu and utena in that order.
>>
>>144131494
Season 1 of Sailor Moon starts off formulaic but gets good once you get the whole team together and has a great ending. Seasons 2 and 3 are fucking fantastic. Season 4 is a slog. Can't tell you about the final season though.
>>
>>144131757

I found the first twenty or so episodes a chore to nearly watch but it was fun getting to know the characters, became very boring with how predictable and like you said formulaic everything was up until Nephrite shows up and following that with the Youma saga which is when it gets good, good.

Show by rock
Ojamajo Doremi(1st season)
Kara no Kyoukai movies
Heartcatch Precure

Now, I wanted to get into idol anime but it's been hard as fuck. I watched 10 episodes of Aikatsu before dropping it because it was silly, boring and it's 3DCG was awful. Also watching Love Live Sunshine but the only thing I enjoy about it is Yohane.

tl;dr how to get into idol anime?

>>144133454
I watched LL S1 fully expecting to hate it just for some Japanese practice, and I loved it. It's the writing, it really brings out the characters and makes their interactions interesting. It reminded me of k-on at first. Once the characters grew on me, I naturally loved the singing and dancing.

What I'm enjoying about sunshine is that it's more of the same LL goodness, plus lots of references to LL which just wouldn't be possible if it were a normal sequel. That layer will be lost on you but I'm sure you can still enjoy it.

I tried one episode of that aikatsu sequel last season and didn't like it, neither did I enjoy 0048. I guess I'm not actually an idolfag, I just find LL quite enjoyable. In short, I definitely recommend LL as your gateway; sunshine may or may not be a bit less effective.
>>
>>144133187

You'll only understand why people want a S3 when you read two or three volumes of the LN past the anime.
>>
>>144133979

>>
>>144134274
