True, but I don't think most vanilla doujins measure up to such standard. A lot of it is sort of rote, in the same way NTR doujins are. "Guy and girl are going out, the guy is into having sex, the girl is also horny but afraid to admit it, they get into it, girl is ashamed of being into it, guy says he likes that about her, they cum, then snuggle." I don't dislike it, but I wouldn't say most vanilla stories really break the mold.
Stuff like most of Dr. P's highscool universe work (I think he's done one or two unrelated to that NTRs) or Keorin (who has the amusing series of the lovey-dovey husband and wife into cheating play) are the standouts among tons and tons of by the numbers nonsense. Yukimi's Cherry Pink is probably the best vanilla story I've seen that isn't just super happy and has neither of its protagonists being very standard. It's hard to say what goes on in creators' minds when it comes to this stuff and I'd hesitate to read too much into anything. If he didn't care at all, they would never have been made. But it's also true that it's a very small minority of his work, so it can't be his only interest. Anything more specific than that is pure supposition without him actually just telling us anything. I don't even know how the H-Manga industry works when it comes to outside pressures on mangaka to change things. And even if we ignore that, his works are just what he, personally, felt like creating, not necessarily what they only want to consume as readers.
It's better to take works for what they are, rather than try to read too deeply into the author's interests or intentions. "Barrier Free" and "Fragile and Tough" are what they are, and the vast majority of the rest of his work not being like them doesn't really change that.
