Recently rewatched it for the first time after a couple years. Was afraid that it didn't hold up for me but it's still pretty great. Except for the first 3 episodes of the timeskip, those were annoying to watch.

I dropped it on episode 17, does it really get that much better? Ep 8-11 were decent but I couldn't deal with the asspulls afterwards and the entire main cast still acting like 14 year olds after the timeskip.

I did. It was decent for the most part but I have no idea why Nia had the special virus and the last fight was extremely long compared to the others.
Not to mention everything seemed extremely convenient for the main cast. From the moon being a giant robot that Simon can combine with, the path to the antispirals being laid out for them, and the sea of spiral energy that helped spawn STTGL.
