The anime has had it's moments but the LN and even the manga I think has done most of the story better. But this last episode was absolutely incredible. For most adaptations, unless they absolutely butcher it, I actually enjoy them more than the source material because I get to see the characters move, hear them speak, etc.
Dramatic pauses and reveals work better in a visual format as opposed to a written format, at least in my opinion.
So to answer your question, reading and watching are two different things. You can know character A is going to do X, but seeing it animated or acted out lets you actually SEE character A do X, and it ends up a different experience. I don't feel that anything has had less of an impact.
Opinions are like assholes though, so your experience may differ.
Maybe read just a tiny bit ahead, then watch next week's episode and see if you feel like reading damaged your viewing experience.
