The only way underestimating could backfire is if Grunbelt was to do something reckless, which he didn't. Besides, he saw Guts' strength with the armour, yet still he got his shield destroyed, his weapon cut in two, his helmet damaged, and shoulder cut into. Add to the cracking his face in the apostle form. It has nothing to do with "underestimating".

That only supports argument in favor of Guts though, Grunbeld was tossing him around because he was wounded and didn't have any equipment or armor, then he goes Berserk and is putting him up against the ropes. Had the fight continued Grunbeld would have been killed but Guts' body would not have been able to survive the tremendous stress either.

The English dub of the original anime is actually pretty good because the studio hired actors trained in theater instead of whatever recycled cheapskate VAs they could find. It also has great outtakes if you haven't seen them already.

What once happened with Void and Gaiseric over a thousand years ago is happening again with Griffith and Guts. Remember those sacrificed corpses under Windham in the Falconia ruins when they try to rescue Griffith?
Void that slimy faggot most likely sacrified the city to become part of the god hand back then and Skully was the only survivor we know of.
