Besides Sorey,Mikleo, and Alisha none of your party has any real empathy and in fact are often tell each other to stop caring and worrying about one another. tales generally has a good use of morality though, most of the time the protagonists are more or less in a gray area with their intentions, especially abyss hearts and xillia 2 where the characters pretty much are forced into a scenario where its them or others. Huh, here I was thinking Laphicet was going to be all meek and shy. While I don't think I would have had a problem with that, I'm liking his portrayal here as well. Voices for him, Magilou, and Eleanor are nice. Overall those skits seemed pretty good and they reinforced my like of the aforementioned and helped me warm up more to Velvet, Eizen, and Rokuro.
Bien's speech tic wasn't bad and I like the Normin racism, though like the Anons above I hope they keep it as normie since that sounds better. Bit at the end with Velvet being a bit jealous was cute. It wasn't, Alisha's dream was always peace in the continent. She only traveled with you because it was a means to an end, different goals same means. She never saw the Celestial Record as anything other than an holy book to be worshipped. The same thing went for the ruins, Alisha was never interested in studying them merely in believing them to be places of worship and nothing else. In fact when Sorey starts to really get into studying the ruins she gets annoyed by it.
It was only Mikleo who shared the dream to explore ruins with Sorey, not Alisha. Sorey also wanted to eventually leave the continent, Alisha did not. Honestly it's just something you kind of expect out of JRPG heroines. Japan just loves putting cute/hot princess characters on the pedestal, tearing them down, reconstructing them and possibly having the MC play out the power fantasy of rescuing or helping the princess in some sort of mutual quest. Also put a sword or spear in her hand and have her sing or fight also but not too well obviously so the hero doesn't end up upstaged in his own story. Throughout the game you learn that a Shepherd put a curse on Heldalf to grant him immortality while causing everyone around him to meet awful deaths. Heldalf spends a long time watching everyone around him die eventually tries to kill himself a bunch of different ways to end his suffering, but he's immortal. Eventually he lets the malevolence take over and decides to turn everyone into a hellion just like him, his justification being that everyone will be free from suffering when they give into their desires or get possessed by malevolence. At this point he's gone off the deep end, and is stockpiling and generating massive amount of malevolence everywhere he can to achieve this goal. It should be noted we never find out if Heldalf is actually aware of who/what cursed him or why.
However when Sorey rejects Heldalf's offer to join him, Heldalf dedicates the rest of the game to actively fucking with him. Everything Symonne does from then on stems from Heldalf's desire to corrupt him, as well as the endgame. Obviously he never gets close to succeeding because Sorey is too pure.
Then in the DLC Edna says Heldalf did all that just because he wanted Sorey to be his friend.

this isn't /v/,but anyway the game's alright I guess,it was honestly my first tales, but I'm familiar with JRPGs and in my honest opinion it wasn't that bad.
The story played it really safe with a traditional plot,but I liked the skits and character interactions.
The battle system relies on armatization though,so if you want more strategic gameplay utilizing all characters you won't find it here, and sometimes this feature can really hamper you in combat because if you get killed that's 2 characters down at once.
Exploration is alright,there's some spots for you to look at and expand on the world and the world building is mostly done through skits although it's not something too memorable.
Also the game's leveling felt weird although it could've just been my playstyle,at some points if you weren't a high enough level it was difficult to proceed.
There's a decent amount of side content though, oh yeah I almost forgot the weapons system is attrocious, I couldn't figure that shit out so I just forgot about it.

Zestiria definitely wasn't the worst (that definitely belongs to Tempest) but if they're relying on an anime to fix some of its issues then it could certainly be better. Episode 0 was significantly better than anything in the game. It was melodramatic at times (child-killing tornado) and pacing sucked (tried to cram way too much into 20 minutes), but overall it was solid. If this level of quality keeps up, it'll easily be AotS.

Agreed, Tales of Graces was comfy as fuck. I just felt really relaxed when playing it, the music and areas you travel to where really relaxed. Overall I didn't really hate anything about Graces, the title system was kind of excessive and tedious but the combat system was fun. i think the worst part about heldaf is how little his plan makes sense, one thing ive liked about tales of villains is that aside from a few exceptions they are all pretty much justified in what they are doing even if they are extremist, van wanted to create a world based off free will broken from a vicious cycle of war, creed wanted to end war but wound up doing more damage than the war itself and was just desperately trying to reverse his previous actions, gaius was trying to protect his kingdom , and so on.
heldalf wanted to basically corrupt everyone in the world and turn them into monsters so that they would be free from the risk of turning into monsters, hes literally just a rip off a van but with a plan that actually makes no fucking sense, with van he was committing genocide and he knew that but he was doing it in an attempt to create a more or less utopia with replicas, if van succeeded while it would of killed everyone the world arguably would of been better off in the future, if heldalf succeeded everyone would just be at eachothers throats and lack any empathy.

Well, no game is perfect and Asbel did get annoying after a while. Sophie irritated me too but that's more a problem with not liking her archetype. They handled her well I think.
