Incorrect, she just isn't familiar with the 3D software they use, and has no experience with it at all.
What you have to understand is that, other than certain things like learning basic programming skills, most of the shit you learn when taking western college courses for game design is complete and total useless bullshit. The only reason why its mandatory is because in the west, AAA companies are directly involved with these courses so they can effectively train people to work for their companies as soon as they leave school.
The approach used in this anime is actually far more effective. That is, having them come in right out of high school and training them to do things your way, with your software, from a blank slate. The only real qualifications that should be necessary are basic proficiency with any level of design (which can be demonstrated with a simple portfolio), and general good work ethic.4 years in college just to learn what AAA companies want you to learn so they can scoop you up and turn you into one of their soulless automatons is a an absolute waste of time. Nothing is going to beat this sort of hands on training, and no one needs to go to college for 4 fucking years just to learn Maya.

I don't understand why shit like this keeps getting made after the success of Shirobako. An all female cast that looks younger than other shows that take place in high school, working in an impossibly neat office with not an an ounce of realism on the horizon. What's the point of using this setting if you are going to squander any potential it may have in favor of generic shit we've seen a million times before?
Probably the only credible part is the heavy focus on the art production, since that seems to be 80% of what goes into the kind of shovelware they must be making in that place.

Game scripting in C?! C doesn't even count as scripting. Lua, python, even Javascript, but not C.
And most major 3D engines are written in C++, not C. After that you are more likely to see C# (XNA, Unity) or Java (especially thanks to Android). Sure you have opengl and SDL C APIs, but even then I'd be surprised to find more games using them written in C than C++.

I would say that Maya is a go to tool long before 3Dmax. When I still into 3D Modeling, 3Dmax is still a baby and everything serious is done on Maya. I remember that I want to try them but it would require me to use Windows NT (Now, I'm feel old a little bit)
