I hate jap LN with a passion, since they read like script plays and not real books. Are the monogatari "books" real books or just drama plays with back and fourth dialogue with long winded narration?

What the anime/movies show you is literally just an abstraction of what the novel actually says.
The novels are written in a first person perspective so if you like knowing only what Koyomi or any of the other narrators are watching or living through, then you might like it. It doesn't feel like a script but then again Nisio related things are very dialogue heavy.

It's one of those rare cases where Anime > Original Content then? I tried reading the haruhi books and just sloughed through them; what pieces of shit they were. I remember being impressed with what Kyoani did with the source material and their interpretation of the characters.

From what I read of Kizu, yes, they are, LNs in general are mostly dialogue and narration

LN get adapted to anime en mass for a reason and this is one of them. The script is already 80% done. Incidentally, this is why they are also mostly shit.
Nise contains very interesting scenes like bath with Shinobu, walking home gently and Teenobu transformation. I'm sure that Shaft deleted a lot of dialogues and scenes in anime so it would be great to be able read LN.
