you can learn enough to be able to listen to Jap and nitpick what you understand. for example: "eh, nanio? ehhhh?" -clearly he's frustrated/confused and you can easily understand what's going on based on what the premise was e.g. he was trying to tie his shoes and failed. the words that come after are easily identified such as "kono", "mendokusai" and such. from that alone you can decipher he probably said something along the lines of "what the hell? these damn shoes are impossible to tie, I mean come on this is getting irritating." without having to know what any of the other words he said meant.

I learned Italian during the nineties from their dubbed anime and German because of Super RTL and their dubbed western shows, if you're a kid you absorb languages like a fucking sponge if you're constantly surrounded by them.
