They fucked up the characterization by cutting so much dialogue and backstories. Guts is just some simple fucking asshole who murders people.
The CGI in those movies isn't horrible. 50% of the time it's actually hand drawn, I was misled by /a/ into thinking it was 100% of the time going to be cgi. Some of the backgrounds are nice.
I thought the eclipse was a bit disappointing, I thought it was supposed to be the best part of those movies but it still had problems. Manga eclipse is the best fucking thing ever.
Most of all I can't forgive the really poor characterization.

Not really, it was alright for Griffith, Guts and Casca but they still skipped alot of important stuff that you wouldn't know unless you read the manga. Most of the band of the hawk were just cut, or had their roles greatly reduced. Eclipse was good but still not as creepy as the manga and they made the rape erotic, not terrible, and Casca looked like she enjoyed it alot.

The problem with the films is they were gutted. We could have put up with shitty CGI if the content was still there. I see they skipped Lost Children, wrote Ishidro back into the story, and apparently bleached Casca a little? These are the things that bother me more than the Reboot-tier 3D models with bizarre hatch shading.

The 3d isn't done by him, it's done by Egawa Hisashi and Satou Atsushi in the studio Gemba, which has nothing to do with Teekyu.
The only staff that worked on Teekyu is Itagaki Shin, who is the director of Berserk and the 2d studio, millepense. The 2d was fine in the opening even they were some few QUALITY.
The real problem is the 3D and the one who does the Series Composition

the orig anime is god-tier based on soundtrack alone, and the atmosphere, utilization of budget and storytelling and characterisation makes it the best adaption of Berserk yet, seconded by the PS2 game which took quite a few creative liberties but their introduction was seamless and fit the story well. The PS2 game is the true sequel to the anime, i'd say.
Then the CG movies which did improve the combat scenes in the way of adding more animation although in very bad quality and choppy but it was okay-ish nonetheless, the story was shitty though, and it in general didn't feel like Berserk at all.
Then the worst of them all is this new abomination, it's just on a whole other level of bad.

My entry point in the series was the dreamcast game, then I just read the manga.
Never watched the first tv series, only watched the first movie and disliked it.
Dreamcast game works best, because its a side story inbetween some of the post golden hawk stories.
