It's easy from an outsiders perspective to say he "doesn't care" but that's a pretty big assumption. Making manga takes dozens of hours, and with the detail in his work it probably takes him longer. Why even go through the effort of 100s of hours of work if you didn't care.
He may have been burnt out(which is understandable after 20+ years doing the same thing), but after getting Giganto Maxia out of his system and with this new push for the series, game, and return from hiatus he may be more refreshed and ready to get back in it.
