Besides their animators and directors, they fired or removed all of the people that were in charge of the studio's projects. It's kind of similar to SquareEnix where Yoichi Wada forced Hironobu Sakaguchi and Hisashi Suzuki to step down. After which every FF they made was mediocre compared to the ones before the merger happened.
