I just finished Hanasaku Iroha. Pretty decent overall (one of the few Okada works I enjoyed), but why was pic related such an insufferable bitch? No wonder she has no friends.

I started it when it was airing, but only watched two episodes. I've had plans to get back to it, but the meanness of the characters in the second episode is really offputting. And the way the MC embarrases herself. It really makes it less tempting to watch. Does it get better? I hear it's a pretty good anime overall

I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it weren't for Mincemeat. Half the drama was caused by her being a complete cunt. I actually like Omigawa's voice, but every time she spoke I wanted to slap the shit out of her.
The fact that I enjoyed the series despite that says something, I think.

Ohana is a miracle of the universe so it's pretty worth it just for that.
The only real problem I had with this show is that Ohana's love interest is just a huge beta orbiter, while Ohana is built up to be a strong, independent woman like her grandmother.
Its also a bit off-putting how terrible Ohana's mother is.
Why minchi so shit, she ruinned the anime.

Most of the characters (Grandma, Tohru, Jiroumaru, Takako, etc) soften up a lot after the first few episodes. The only character who stays consistently mean throughout the series is Minshit.
