Incompetence is the first sin of any character in fiction. Only a lovable, sympathetic, easy going , modest characters are forgiven for that. Everyone else, especially those who want to be taken seriously, can not afford so much stupidity without appearing bothersome.

Thank you. The whiteknight faggotry was too much to handle this episode. On the one hand I'm glad someone (and Emilia of all people) called him out on his shit. But the other, his terrible attitude in the last two episodes makes it seem like he learned absolutely nothing from the previous arc, when he clearly should've: in retrospect it makes the whole mansion arc seem even more pointless, as the main character got nothing out of it aside from acquiring a new potential love interest.
Worst thing is I don't even dislike Subaru, it's just that the way the author handles his character is confusing.

I can totally forgive Subaru for going all white knight for Emilia this episode. He literally has nothing else to do, and he is fucked either way. He can't just up and start a new life, because he has no idea what he is doing. It is a new world, and Emilia is the only one he can rely on to survive. So he feels a bit attached to her.

These things are mutually exclusive she was absolutely right that he was doing all those things for himself, he did them for her because he wants to get something in return, not because he wants to be a nice person, same thing with spending time with those kids he did it to try to show off to Emillia not because he is a caring person.
He is not loyal so much as obsessive.
She was absolutely in the right to tell him that he was being selfish, and when he fails to see it she did the right thing by diffusing the situation and leaving. She cares for him but she can not do anything to help him in that situation.
