Agreed. Then Ikoma would have looked like Guts or pic related, somehow.
If they want to do a second season in a year they'll probably want Ikoma to make it through, otherwise the next main character will be Mumei or some other special snowflake male Kabane.
If not, then he'll probably die. This show is fairly predictable, but I can see it going one of two ways: he dies saving Mumei (before or after killing Biba), or he somehow makes it through turning into a monster so he can keep his promise to Mumei of eliminating all the Kabane.
