As for why yuri and yaoi are popular, it has nothing to do with homosexuality and everything to do with heterosexuality.
Men overwhelmingly enjoy female sexual interactions, because polygyny (one male, two or three females) is the original human family unit, and female bisexuality contributed to harmony within the group.
Girls and young women like yaoi because it's androgynous and a safe way to explore their sexuality. Yoai pairings usually conform to traditional gender norms, and girls tend to self-insert as feminine one of the pair far more than you'd think.

So now I finished Sleeping With Hinako, trying to sleep next to it.
It was really comfy to relax with the sound of her, and sleep next to her, but the anime is far from a masterpiece. The problem is the constantly switching camera angles. It could be nice, if they let you sleep, but there is a considerable difference in light between the different camera angles. Every time it switches to her panties, the room lights up, and it shines through the eyelids, distracting you from falling asleep. Turning the screen down to the lowest light helps a bit, but not a lot. The result is that it's really hard to actually fall asleep, because the anime's visuals constantly tries to grab your attention.
Switching to different fanservice angles could work, if the anime took care to make them all equally dark, giving you the option to either have your eyes open, watching fanservice, or having your eyes closed, trying to sleep. But as it is, that doesn't work.
It is also a problem that the angles are inconsistent. Sometimes it isn't as if you're sleeping next to her at all, and direction and side of her switches constantly, breaking the immersion when you open your eyes to look.
The dream sequence/flashback was pretty nice and interesting, and only starting after a long time. I think it could have worked nicely if the anime had actually gotten me to fall asleep, turning it into a dreamlike experience when you half wake up to it and see it, still almost sleeping.
Sadly, shortly after this, everything falls apart. I heard it was originally a choose your own adventure DVD, which shows, with the multiple endings played, and too many flashbacks in too little time, waking you completely up. And the triple alarm clock makes it unsuitable for night sleep, may possibly work better for a nap during the day, if you happen to get sleepy enough.
I think the concept has potential, and the first part was nice, but sadly I can't give it more than maybe 4-5/10, even watching it correctly
