Mononoke
Cowboy Bebop
Paranoia Agent
Planetes
Mushishi
Princess Tutu
Haibane Renmei
Kaiba
Serial Experiments Lain
Jin-Roh
Angel's Egg (ehhhh...)
Pretty much everything by Ghibli (I don't think this really counts though; it's kind of a low blow)

Which isn't to say there aren't plenty of other typically cited "anime masterpieces" that don't contain implications of it at some point or another. Utena is the obvious go-to, although Juri is the only lesbian main character in the original anime. Texhnolyze has a prominent gay character, though there's only really two scenes where his sexuality is even touched upon. Samurai Champloo has an episode dedicated to a gay character although, once again, it's a WHAT A TWEEST moment. TTGL is more notable for its animation and direction than plot, but it does have Leeron. Gankutsuou has homoerotic implications at quite a few points. Sword of the Stranger has that cute bishounen Shouan crushing on Luo-Lang. Ah, and then Boku no Pico is really super gay.

Actually, I expected this to be a lot harder than it was, and a lot of the anime I discounted only bring it up once or twice and do not have it as a hugely prominent aspect of the work. So there you have it.

>>
>>143438479

You're approaching this from the wrong angle, I think. I'm a bisexual and I still found the way sexuality was utilized in the Kamisu to be creepy and the fact that it was basically used as fanservice at parts in the anime to be somewhat gross. I think that people have such a visceral reaction to it and spit on the show when they're fine with stuff like Utena to be very understandable in that regard.

Humanity should just go extinct in this setting. All strains of it have degenerated into something without worth.

people need to adapt better source material like they did for Shinsekai Yori. The novel itself was amazing as I read it last summer after I watched the anime.

The completely out of place disgustingly graphic depiction of a gay kiss in episode 8 is a completely legitimate complaint about the show though. Not one that makes it a significantly worse show, but a legitimate complaint nonetheless.

Hell, it's not even about it being gay at all, it's about it being some gross hentai-tier tongue-twirling shit.

The novel is filled with sexuality that the anime chose to either cut or depict lightly. That one scene is the only time it decides to go to such a length. I have no idea what they were thinking. It's a complete lack of consistency and very unfitting for the anime.

I hate that they did it because so many people stupidly drop the show after it when nothing like that happens after and it just gets better and better from there on.

Found the hipster
>>
>>143453373
>hipster
“Hipster” is a term co-opted for use as a meaningless pejorative in order to vaguely call someone else’s authenticity into question and, by extension, claim authenticity for yourself.

It serves no conversational function and imparts no information, save for indicating the opinions and preferences of the speaker.

Meanwhile, a market myth has sprung up around the term, as well as a cultural bogeyman consisting of elusive white 20-somethings who wear certain clothes (but no one will agree on what), listen to certain music (no one can agree on this either), and act a certain way (you’ve probably sensed the pattern on your own).

You can’t define what “that kind of behavior or fashion or lifestyle” actually is, nor will you ever be able to. That’s because you don’t use “hipster” to describe an actual group of people, but to describe a fictional stereotype that is an outlet for literally anything that annoys you.

The twist, of course, is that if it weren’t for your own insecurities, nothing that a “hipster” could do or wear would ever affect you emotionally. But you are insecure about your own authenticity - “Do I wear what I wear because I want to? Do I listen to my music because I truly like it? I’m certainly not like those filthy hipsters!” - so you project those feelings.

Suffice it to say, no one self-identifies as a hipster; the term is always applied to an Other, to separate the authentic Us from the inauthentic, “ironic” Them.

No, not really. Same sex attraction / relationship was basically just a tool, a programmed phase that allows teenage cantus users to relieve stress without making every single female in the whole school pregnant. Once they mature some more they turn back to 'normal'.

Just because they flipped the sex preference switch for a few years with brainwashing doesn't mean the relationships during that time were fake or programmed in too.
>basically devolved them to a level of animals
Did you see how they live and how the 'manage' their offspring so they won't wipe themselves out?
Don't try to apply same human morals, they won't fit. Not in a world where single individual wields the power that rivals that of an atomic bomb.
If you only complain about 'gay phase' when their whole life from birth to adulthood (and even farther) is full of conditioning, brainwashing and 'culling the herd for greater good' moments you can't see the wood for the trees.
>>
>>143463397
It's not really that same sex stuff was "programmed", it's that man/woman relationships between teens were taboo, and they were brought up in this free sex community modeled on bonobos or whatever. So teen hormones + that kind of society leads into same sex sex.

>>143463617
The novel's tone was never negative about that stuff though. That's kind of the point, their values are really different from ours and the story is told from the character's point of view. All that negative light is in your mind.

>Saki abandoned Maria
Blatantly false, literally two episodes devoted to them seeking her out
>Saki was thinking of Shun
Not only is this an exaggeration, this doesn't invalidate their feelings for each other and I'm not sure why you think it would. The entire group was polygamous as fuck.
>Saki blamed Maria for the tragedy
This was a cliffhanger at the end of one of the earlier episodes, not the end, and she was right. She didn't say it in a way that implies Maria is a bad person or that she didn't care about her.
>Squealer tortured Maria and still for gave him
Squealer was literally a writhing mess of nerv tissue, him suffering anymore wasn't going to bring Maria back and Saki was emotionally mature enough to know it. Not to mention she had just found out how fucked the history of the queerats was.
>Maria sucked Sotaru's shota dick then kissed Maria
When did this happen? Either way, again I don't see how that would invalidate their feelings.

He's not handing out any (You), and rightly so.

You really, really need to kill yourself.
-Saki going to find Maria and and the other guy does not change the fact she left Maria alone after they found her while she was in danger and Sotaru was not.
-Not an exaggeration in the slightest. Saki saw Sotaru sucking Shun's dick (make out scene in the anime) and she then directly ran to Maria for "comfort sex" because she was upset about what she saw, not because she had deep feelings for Maria.
-No, it was not in one of the earlier episodes. It was straight from the last book. And yes, it actually does mean she doesn't care about Maria because otherwise she wouldn't have blamed her.
-It's not about bringing Maria back, it's about letting Squealer off for what he did.
-When Saki and Sotaru were captured by rat people in book one.

You. You're not fooling anyone. And you're new shit cancer for unironically thinking "(You)s" are actually a thinking. Fuck off back to redit.

>what multiple people think I'm baiting? No way must be a samefag!

But now I see I'm talking about the anime and you're talking about the books so that explains the disconnect. Do you think they're still worth a read after watching?

You're not smart enough to understand anything either way. It doesn't matter if you read them.
And again, fuck off redditor. Also, ever using "durr bait" as a reply instant'y means you are cancer.

Not anymore cancerous than screaming reddit at everything you come across that displeases you

God, you're stupid. It's not because it "displeases me", it's because you're trying to treat "(You)s" like upvotes. Which is what Reddit is based around. And the irony is that you are doing exactly what you accuse other people of, accept with /v/.

Hey that's cool man

Honestly one of the best villains of of our time.

this, I also liked that dude from Psycho Pass but it was a bit pretentious.

Now that I think of it is Squealer the best villain of the last years? Counting as original source I mean
>>
"THAT DUDE" why villian? He's more of s antihero. Humanity is bad not squealer.

It's Satoru, not Sotaru.

Sex is a coping mechanism in their society. The implications are not the same as they are in ours.

I don't remember Saki blaming Maria for anything. Could I have a quote? Wonder if it's the fan-translation messing up, I read the original. At the beginning of the first book she did mention that if Maria hadn't been born those many lives wouldn't have been lost. That's just logical thinking, a hook and not really blaming anyone.

Her releasing Squeler from his never-ending pain marks her growth as a character. She's starting to see the rat people as the humans they are, enslaved by her people. The revenge they are bestowing upon Squeler is inhuman, pointless and childish. Having a part in her former lover's death is far from the worst thing he's done, but no one deserves endless torture.

It's ironic how Squeler's failed rebellion actually lead into her finally considering their slaves as closer to equals. Maybe their society will slowly change from there.

Same difference.

-I never said sex wasn't that. But the point is that there's nothing that shows Saki and Maria had deep romantic feelings for Maria, which is what the other person was trying to imply.
-Saying if Maria would have never been born is the first time she said it, and the second time was in the third book when fighting her daughter. That is also the very furthest thing away from logical thinking. Why Maria specifically not being born? Why not her parents? Why not the whole village? Why not the village elders who caused everything? She specifically singles out Maria for no reason.
-Squeler's behavior itself was inhuman. And it's not like he just killed Maria, he forced her to breed so he could make human weapons, tortured her, and then killed her.

The first mention of Maria not being born is very logical. She's talking of them being born just two weeks apart and in the same troubled way, the experience from Saki's birth helping with saving Maria. So if she hadn't herself been born neither would have Maria, and lots of people would still have their lives.

The second mention I don't think exists, I just checked every mention of Maria in the third book. She does mention the daughter being Maria's child many times. That's not blaming Maria for it, that's Saki wanting to give her old lover's and best friend's daughter a chance to live.

There's nothing said about forcing her to breed, torturing her and killing her. Nothing is written at all about what resulted in their child, though Squeler doesn't deny killing Maria and Mamoru when Saki blames him for it.

Even if his behavior was inhuman there's no reason to answer it with your own inhumanity. Saki is adult enough in the end to realize that.

-You didn't answer what I said. Any single one of the people, and more, who I listed not being born would have effectively resulted in the same conclusion that Saki was reaching about Maria. It's actually not even Maria's fault all those people died. It's the people who enslaved Squeler's people. Yet again, Saki singles out Maria.
-The second mention, while irrelevant to the point because even the first one proves it, is when Saki is fighting Maria's daughter, she didn't even remember this at first and never mentioned Maria many times. She was under brain washing effects still at this time, and once she got her memories back is when she started to fault Maria (and get wet for Shun again).
-Squeler did that to the queen of his own people, do you think he hesitated for a second to do it to Maria, someone who was from a group of people he hated.
-There's nothing inhuman about giving people what they deserve.

I mean the book starts by her telling of her being born, and then her best friend being born 2 weeks later. What the fuck kinda storytelling would jump to blaming doctors and parents for future tragedies. She isn't even blaming Maria anyway, it's not like Maria had a choice in being born.

Give me quotes. I don't think anything like that was written.

And I sure hope you grow up someday too, like Saki did. An eye for an eye will leave everyone blind.
>>
>>143471646
-Be honest, how many stories have you read in your whole life? Leaving aside how this story itself makes it clear she's blaming Maria, faulting people for the events after their birth by just citing their birth is a very common thing is story telling. I don't know how to make it more clear to you, it's like explain 2+2. You can only do so much.
-You don't even seem to remember that Saki was brain washed for most of the third book, because what you said directly contradicts that. You claimed to have read it, but it's clear you didn't.
-No, it actually just leaves two people without one eye each. That saying is a stupid false dichotomy. Do you think murders deserve life in prison for killing in cold blood? No difference here. Squeler deserved what was happening to him.
