Anime Hell was pretty great
when i was in gradeschool, i remember being so hyped each time a new DBZ movie came out. thanks to those dbz magazines, i even knew which ones were still on the horizon. One day, I went to the mall and saw Broly 2 and Fusion Reborn. On VHS. And officially they hadn't even dubbed Bojack yet. I begged my mom to buy them for me and she did. I was so excited to watch them and could not wait to pop them into the VHS player.
it WAS in english like the guy manning the booth said when i picked them out, but they all sounded very foreign and high-pitched. They had a shit grasp of the english language and for some reason, they decided both Gohan and Goten were also named Goku. I watched them both one time and stashed the movies somewhere.
So many years later, after seeing the big green dub and other awful versions, I feel like i could truly appreciate these. Sadly, I cannot find the tapes and assuming they are still here but stashed in a box somewhere in the attic or garage, i'm sure they dont even fucking work anymore. Why would that matter? I don't even have a VHS anymore. no one does.

My dad used to borrow DBZ VHS tapes from the video store for me when I was a kid because I loved the show.
Shit, who remembers video stores? To think that in my lifetime video stores will cease to exist entirely in my country when they were such a big part of my childhood. It used to be something we did all the time, it was what you did when you wanted to watch a movie that you didn't have or play a video game on the cheap.
I mean sure, video rental stores are obsolete now, digital streaming services and downloads are just plain better, cheaper and easier to use but damn if I don't have some good fucking memories when it comes to the experience of actually going to a video store and renting a movie or game for the weekend. I genuinely miss them nowadays.
Every time I see scenes from DBZ I'm surprised at how good it looks compared to modern anime and anime in general.

Now it's not just that the art is QUALITY, it's that the art lacks any artistic direction at all, so when things are off model it just looks like someone made it in MS paint.It's probably because they did, or some third world outsourcing equivalent
