Hype originals are when /a/ is at its best no doubt, but originals also often suck dick like they did this season. I've sat through at least 40 seasons of being let down over and over and over and over and over again in such fashion; often by the end of a season the shows that I actually like still incidentally are all moe SoL/comedies because they do not have plots to botch or asses to pull. Their simplicity makes them immune to the same fucking pitfalls fucking talentless, ball-less nips never seem to learn from.
That is not to say all SoL/moe is automatic gold; there definitely is a hierarchy to them and they definitely can be badly done too. For example Kitakubu, Acchi Kocchi, A-channel etc? Ok shows, but not remotely as good as Non Non or Yuyushiki. Kinmoza would also be a very inferior show if it wasn't for Karen existing (to me at least). Even so none of these shows have any of the shit that starts to drive you fucking nuts about anime. So I still like all those shows more than any of the garbage originals and forgettable harem-magic-school LNs we usually get.
That is also not to say "all SoL are automatic win" is always right, for example Ping Pong, Jinrui and Shirobako easily beat any SoLs airing those seasons. It's just most of the time promising shows fall to shit while SoLs truck on as consistently great every week. This season is a stark example of that with so much squandered potential. Even Luluco which seemed great for most of the season also shit the bed for a bit with a couple eps wasted on meta Trigger rehash.

As for what you want to know, is not that complex. It's elitism indeed, but it's one that simply gathers the roots of the culture of a group and tries to maintain them into a relevant position, in this case the preferable genre and aspects of the show, and other things.
You learn to like these aspects of the culture to coexist in harmony,they aren't necessary your favorites, but it's expected from people to rationalize the intention.
So whenever someone comes and whines about what /a/ likes, it's basically someone going against the culture, and to make matter worse; in an irrational way.

Honestly, I think a lot of people here strongly hype/defend "moe" anime because of a perception that "normalfags" don't like it, and out of a desire to chase "normalfags" away from /a/, thinking they'll leave if they perceive /a/ as a haven for "moefags" and/or "pedos."
/a/ is a very unique anime community which is vastly different from MAL, Reddit, etc., and I think a substantial portion of /a/ would like to keep it that way.
There are, of course, a ton of people on /a/ who sincerely love "moe" anime, as well, but I think many of them exaggerate their love of "moe" anime and "moe" anime shows for the reason described above.

This isn't technically conected to me but I believe that you are wrong in this aspect. You don't need to LIKE the aspects of a culture to coexist in harmony, people can have different opinions on a subject and still coexist. It what happens on /a/, wanting it or not. But I know what you are saying, its basically a small scale of what some call "Interethnic conflict", well, without the "ethnic" part at least. You ave how groups created their frontiers and boundaries so they can separate who really is into it and who is out. This is how they delimit themselves and how they react to outsiders to protect their culture.

To elaborate a little on this, the most popular anime outside of /a/ are usually battleshonen. "Moe" anime are pretty much the stylistic opposite to battleshonen anime, so this is why I think it's essentially a meme at this point (and has been for a long time; >>143404750 is a fairly old image) to make it appear as if /a/ is all about the "moe" in order to keep "normalfags" away.

Pretty much it, and you will notice that /a/ is constantly building its own identity in a symbiotic relationship with "nornalfags", this is why they reception of a show or manga becoming mainstream abruptly change how it is received here, /a/ has to reconfigure its own views to acomodate it.
But obviously /a/ is not a single person and there is when coexistence with different ideas or tastes shows up.
