They would displace the same volume of water, regardless of mass.
>>
Solved. It's pretty much easy read the second sentence and work from there.
>>
>>143400168
tip to the left, the steel ball contributes nothing to the mass on the left, and
mass of ping pong+ mass of water>mass of water

also >>>/sci/
>>
>>143400168

it wouldn't change? Weight would only matter if the steel ball sunk, right? so if the balls have the same volume there shouldn't be any change
>>
>>143400168
They displace the same amount of water, but the ping pong ball is connected to the container, meaning it would have more weight than the steel ball, so it would tip slightly in favor of the ping pong side
>>
>>143400260

not a physic master here but i think it would tip to the left. Steel ball is hung, so it makes no pressure to right side, while ping pong ball is filled with oxygen that weights a bit.

But i may be wrong.
>>
Retard here. I think it tips to the right, since the steel ball is being suspended, it shouldn't affect the weight. The ping pong ball is held by the crane, and since a ping pong ball is less dense than water, the buoyancy force should push it upwards right? Then shouldn't it be going to the right?
>>
The whole scale floats away into the sky.
>>
Engineer here. It tips to the left. Because of Newton's third law, the reaction force of the string that keeps the ping pong ball in place acts downwards on the scale, thus increasing its weight a bit compared to the steel ball, whose string has no impact whatsoever in the scale.

We cannot get fully accurate answer
Whenever family get a boy, cycle stops, so there are always more boys than girls. Example by 6 families
1 B
2 G B
3 G G B
4 G B
5 B
6 G B

5 Girls 6 boys

But with 50/50 chance of birth, it may actually be
1 B
2 G G B
3 G G G B
4 G B
5 G B
6 G G B
so 10 girls 6 boys

I was never the best with
theory of probability so i wont do advanced math research, but this isn't fully solvable. We can just assume if this policy is worth the try.

Here are some: Why do we still use Newtonian physics when Einstein's Special Law of Relativity has proven them false?

Why is the scientific method often taught as indictivist? What are the problems with classical inductivism? Is there "a" scientific method to begin with?

What's the ultimate goal of science? Can it give us an accurate portrayal of reality or is it only tool by which we can understand it?

Place a ball in the water. Is its weight reduced? Yes, because it is being pushed up by the water. The force of buoyancy against the steel ball pushes down on the scale with a force equal to the displacement, as all the remaining weight is suspended by the string.

Therefore it tips fedora.

Steel ball pushes the water a little bit. The string takes most of the weight but just a little goes to the cup. so that one is a bit heavier than the ping pong ball cup.

You can try it by just putting your finger in a cup with water in it and checking the weight with and without your finger. It makes small difference.

And yes the same applies to a cup with air in it just a lot less of a difference. Also stop posting this shit.

That decree is counterproductive. A decree ordering families to have no more children after having a daughter would increase the ratio of girls to boys, because every firstborn girl guarantees no more new boys, while every boy born can potentially be matched by a girl born after him. Short of actually controlling the sex at birth this is the best policy you can enact to get the results he wants.

It's neither 1/2 nor 1/3. The actual chance is 3/8.

If you switch, you have a 1/4 chance of neither door to switch to being correct (0%) and a 3/4 chance of one of those doors to switch to being correct (50%). So the overall chance is 1/4 * 0% + 3/4 * 50% = 3/8.

If you don't switch, the chance of picking the correct door is obviously 1/4.

>>143404119
Yeah, but switching in the original problem didn't give a 50% chance of being wrong.
>>
>>143402725
The principle remains the same. No matter what door you choose, a known bad door is excluded for free. That tilts the odds in such a way that it's always good to switch.
>>
>>143404237
You still have a 75% chance that your initial choice was wrong if you don't switch.

That part refers to classic Monty Hall. Since you can't get the same certainty of choosing correctly when you start adding doors then you flip the priority to lower the chance you are wrong.

3 doors 66% chance your first choice is wrong
4 doors 75% chance your first choice is wrong
5 doors 80% chance your first choice is wrong
etc...

>>
>>143404490
Oh, so that's what you meant.
>>
>>143403887

>>
>>143404452
Nope.
>>
>>143404361
99%.
>>
>>143400168
As always, it tips to the right due to the buoyancy of the steel ball, while the ping pong ball does effectively nothing. (note: this assumes the steel ball is heavier than the ping pong ball which is derived from common sense).

Interesting way to think about it: imagine if the steel ball was made from something just a bit less dense than water (like ice). It would obviously float, and the string wouldn't carry weight. Now where does the weight of the ball rest on.

>>143400799
Assuming they keep fucking till they get a boy, the ratio would be 1 to 1. The possibility of having one kid would be 50%, where this kid would always be a boy. 25% chance of two kids, one boy one girl etc.
So basically there'd be an 1/2^n chance of having 1 boy and n-1 girls. Summing up both these series for n = 1 -> inf results in 1 for both of them.

But what if they don't? the series for the average amount of guys per family from 1 to m kids is 1 - 1/2^m, the average amount of girls per family would be 1 - ( m + 1) /2^m. The latter is smaller than the former for all values of m > 1, meaning that when the amount of kids a couple will have is limited by another reason than getting a boy, this will actually cause there to be more boys than girls born.

>>143404361
50%, the proof of which is left as an exercise to the reader because it's just more sequence theory.
>>
>>143404585
Ah shit I see. I wrongly assumed AB and DE were parallel.
>>
>>143404734
>Now where does the weight of the ball rest on.
It'll just rest on the right hand side. The scales will still tilt to the right as long as it's heavier than the ping pong ball on the left.
>>
>>143404734
Even if you set a limit like couples only ever having 2 children it still will make no difference to the ratio of boys to girls.

Same applied the other way even if couples keep going no matter how long to get a boy the chance of a boy or girl is still 50% and will not change.

Short of drowning babies the ratio will remain the same and only the overall population will decrease.

>>143400168
As has been said, it tips to the right. But here's another way to see why:

Consider the force on the bottom of each beaker. The water level si the same in each, so the water pressure at the bottom is the same for both beakers. But the bottom of the beaker on the left has the additional upward force of the string connected to the ping pong ball. So the left side has to come up.

Unstated assumption in the Monty hall problem:

The person opening the door knows what's behind each door and always chooses to open a door which is incorrect. This makes sense in the context of a game show (If the host could have revealed the prize, the game would end), but I didn't consider it at first.

For a ruducto as absurdium, assume there are 100 doors. You pick 1 at random (1% chance of being right) and the host opens 98 incorrect doors, leaving 1 door that you picked and one other door, which he offers to let you swap to. It's obvious to swap here, because the other door has a 99% chance of being correct.

Assume the picture isn't to scale, then add the two given angles in the upper left triangle and subtract the result from 180 to get 50 degrees. Now, you should know from geometry that the opposite side has the same angle. Next, divide the triangle in half at the 50 degree angle to create a right triangle and solve for the unknown.

(turn 1)
1. Mr. fuji ditto* into deck to stop yourself decking out
2. Use gust of wind on venusaur to bring it up
3. Use energy removal on scyther
4. Use super energy removal on the grass energies attached to pinsir (discard an energy from hitmonchan)
5. Attach a water energy to psyduck and evolve it into golduck
6. Retreat scyther into golduck
7. Pass your turn to your opponent

(turn 2)
8. Your opponent can't attack w/ venusaur due to not having enough grass energy in play to energy trans, so they have to retreat. since venusaur's retreat cost is 2, and your opponent only has potentially 1 grass energy left in their deck, they have to retreat into weedle and attach to it the grass energy that they presumably drew (their best possible top-deck**).
9. Your opponent attacks with poison sting. they must not flip heads on poison (you would lose if they did)

(turn 3)
10. Attach a fighting energy to golduck
11. Use hyper beam to discard an energy from weedle.

(turn 4)
12. Your opponent can't do anything now, even if they draw gust of wind, since none of their pokemon have the energy to attack to knock out one of your own.

(turn 5)
13. Pass your turn to win the game by having your opponent deck out.

(See asterisk notes in next post)
>>
>>143400168

Assuming the volume of water displaced by both balls and string is equivalent, the scale should tip left. The mass of the ping pong ball is added to the total weight of the left scale.
>>
>>143404509
>>143407740

*you can't mr. fuji hitmonchan, or else your opponent can gust of wind up ditto and KO it by retreating into weedle, since ditto copies weedle's 40 hp and dies
due to already having 40 damage on it. you need ditto off the field immediately, in case your opponent draws gust of wind.

**of the 2 cards left in your opponent's deck, one of them MUST be grass energy in order for your opponent to have a chance at winning after turn 1 (since they
have to attack with weedle to win). Yet, regardless of what the other card in the deck is (energy removal or gust of wind), and regardless of which order
they top-deck the 2 cards, they would still lose provided poison sting does not flip heads on poison

if GOW is drawn first: weedle can't attack on turn 2 (since they didn't draw energy), so you can retreat the pokemon that gets brought up back into golduck,
since himtonchan has the energy to retreat, and scyther needs no energy to retreat.
weedle can't attack until turn 4, and won't be able to knock golduck out provided it doesn't flip heads on poison.
if ER is drawn first: they would use it on golduck (the best move), but then they can't attack w/ weedle (since they didn't draw energy).
You can't use hyper beam on turn 3, but they can't attack golduck until turn 4 (when they draw the grass energy).
As long as they don't posion, you can win buy passing turn 5 as usual.
If GE is drawn first: plays out in like the steps above

Can't believe i was autistic enough to type that out.

4. Mr. fuji ditto into deck to stop yourself decking out
5. Attach a water energy to psyduck and evolve it into golduck
6. Retreat scyther into golduck
7. Pass your turn to your opponent

(turn 2)
Your opponent will either:
8a. Keep Venusaur in, and not attack
8b. Retreat venusaur into weedle (they may or may not attach energy to attack, but it doesn’t matter in the end).
(turn 3)
(If 8a happened)
9a. Attach fighting energy to golduck and hyper beam.
(If 8b happened)
9b. Retreat into hitmonchan and attach fighting energy to it, then special punch to KO weedle.

(turn 4)
10. Your opponent will either have a venusaur that can only retreat, leaving the opponent’s board with no grass energies left, OR no weedle left to attack with, and only 1 grass energy remaining in hand (so neither of the other 3 pokes can attack). Either way, they can’t do anything.

(turn 5)
11. Pass your turn to win the game by having your opponent deck out.

You do 8b INSTEAD of 8a. You attach the fighting energy to EITHER golduck or hitmonchan depending on what your opponent does on turn 2.

However, you raise a good point w/ energy trans-ing the grass energies to scyther/pinsir. I don't know how to solve that.

By this point, I think this problem might actually be impossible. I've been at it for over an hour and I can't think of anything.

I may be a bit dumb, can you care to explain how you found the angles for CDE? Just so I can understand it a bit better.

Ok, so first thing is that Y and G are manifolds, and the expression π₃(G)≃ℤ is saying that the third homotropy group of G is isomorphic to the set of integers, which means that G is either a 3-sphere, or a regular sphere.

So far, so good.
