What do you think of this man
>>
>>143294921
I would beat him up.
>>
>>143294921
He contributes good ideas to the shows he works on by virtue of being an edgy shithead that constantly wants to undermine or subvert for the fuck of it, and the end result can be unique or refreshing as a result. That said, he's too weak of a writer to hold creative control, and functions better when he's on a tight leash or only a creative influence and not the one in the driver's seat. He has a tendency to be excessively masturbatory towards his own inspirations and gets predictable with his stories since he seems to depend way too much on his audience not expecting the obvious twists he's setting up. He lacks subtlety, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

At the very least, he's better than goddamn Okada, fuck.

One of the best writers Japan has right now.

And then there is this faggot, who doesn't understand anything.

>sets up a cool and unique premise with digitized human minds existing in a massive cyberspace infrastructure where socioeconomic paradigms are governed by the tension between unlimited wants and post-scarcity
>abandon it within the first few minutes for a buddy cop drama between a lolified cake tsundere and a rugged self-insert in not-mexico
>"oh by the way, the leaders of the techno-world were evil because reasons"
He's a hack.

He's ambitious, so I can't really fault him for lack of trying. When he's good, he's God-tier. When he's bad, he's pretty woeful.
>>
>>143295500
Well. He does write enjoyable stories, not some boring pseudo-philosophical drivel.
And Angela has great character.
>>
He's like an early tomino minus the whole "trailblazing a whole genre" thing, and instead of sticking to series he writes an episode or two and slaps his name on whatever he touches and fucks off to the next unrelated project.
>>
>>143294921
He's going to make the Philippines great again

Right...?
>>
>>143295605
>And Angela has great character.
No anon, she has great legs, and a great ass.

Those aren't the same thing as character. Her character was just filling to make the legs and ass move, like the sawdust they put in hamburgers to fill them out. It's cheaper that using something with real substance and tastes about the same in the end because it's not the part people care about.
>>
>>143294921
I think he better not fuck up the Madoka sequel.

DUDE DARK STORYLINE KILLING CHARACTER OFF LMAO
Sometimes it works like in Fate/Zero, Madoka or Psycho Pass but then he also did disasters like Gargantia and Blassreiter.
So in the end I like him, but you never know when he's going to do something genuinely enjoyable or a dister.
>>
He made Fate good.

Props to him from taking a tacky porn game and making a respectable series with a well written cast, plot line and interesting themes.
>>
>>143296024
It is simple.
If it is something he has full creative control off, then it is great.
If he just does structure/few episodes, it turns to shit.
>>
>>143296024
He only wrote the first episode of Gargantia.
>>
>>143296024
I like the whole killing off characters thing because when you know that a writer is an edgy shit who likes to pull cast deaths out of nowhere just for the fuck of it, it means that "life or death" situations always have actual tension. Whether someone is actually going to be unceremoniously killed off or not is always up in the air.

Most writers are too afraid to actually kill off important characters, and their stories lack tension as a result, because they still pull the whole "this is a high-risk life or death situation, we may not survive" shit, but with the certainty that nobody will ever actually die. If you dangle the risk of death over the viewer's nose as a plot device, then you actually have to make good on it every now and again or else it just stops working.
>>
>>143296105
I thought that he was the one in charge of writing the series

>>143295163
>he's better than goddamn Okada
I still don't understand why that bitch gets so much work
>>
>>143296184
He had some creative control, but most details were written by others. Same with A.Z where he did only first 3 episodes (which were actually great).
>>
>>143296313
A.Z had a lot of cool ideas in it, even if the story itself was crap. The whole idea of using the earth's curvature to hide from a laser while bombarding with conventional artillery was like something right out of an oldschool RTS game.
>>
>>143296181
Problem is he's not very good at making characters you care about.
>>
>>143296388
>K-Y-S

>>
>>143296502
Problem with his edgy shit is he doesn't have a sense of humor about it. Look as shit like Hellsing. It's super edgy but it doesn't pretend to be some super deep crap.

He's a fucking hack writer but all of his shows are extremely fun to watch with /a/
>>
>>143296820
Being entertaining? both Madoka and Fate/Zero were talked to dead here.
>>143296798
Psycho Pass was a solid sci fi show.
Madoka had some pretty great moments like episode 3 and 10, watching it weekly was a wild ride, maybe it loses the effect when you have been spoiled to dead.
Fate/Zero was bad, I'd give you that.
>>
>>143296879
Yeah. No.
>>
>>143296965
It has been stated earlier that his shows rely on you not knowing what is coming. It's like a haunted house where you know when all the shit pops out. A poorly designed cheap way to pull your emotions.
>>
>>143296965
Being entertaining isn't an accomplishment, it should be expected. It doesn't make it good it makes it serviceable
>>
>>143297037
>Being entertaining isn't an accomplishment
Considering that there are many shows that fail at that, I would consider it an accomplishment.
What do you even expect from his series?
>>
>>143297036
How was Psycho Pass pass anything like that?
>>
>>143297156
The only moment in that show to draw anything out of me was when that guy protected his son. I didn't really care about any of the characters.

>>
>>143296973
>lol no
Great rebuttal.
>>
My real problem with him is more the fact that he creates interesting world and put characters with different ideologies against each other. The problem is the way that this is done
>I see the world this way
>THAT MAKES NO SENSE AND YOU'RE WRONG
>>
>>143294921
I loved Kamen Rider Gaim
>>
>>143298619
Part of it comes from the fact that it can be difficult to actually articulate their worldview to the viewer and make it clear why thew two are incompatible. If they had all the time in the world, they could show you how, but with the incessant 1 cours only restriction forced on every original nowadays they don't really have the luxury to be subtle, and having characters argue out their motivations is quick and clear.
>>
>>143295163
>Projects where he's on a tight leash
Gargantia, A.Z, Efp and Blassreiter

>Projects where it's all him
Saya no uta and his other VNs/LNs, Madoka,

>Somewhere in between
Psycho-Pass, Fate/Zero and Gaim

Nah, you're full of shit.
Most of the people that like him or hate him have seen less than 10% of his works. They don't know what they're talking about.
>>
>>143298931
I've only seen Saya no Uta, Psychopass, Fate/Zero and Madoka. I liked Saya No Uta.
>>
>>143298754
I think he does good incompatible world view (in Gargantia, Madoka and PP) but what really annoys me is how it's impossible for one side to understand or even care about the other.
>>
>>143294921
I think that i'm waiting for saya no uta anime or at least hentai
>>
>>143299678
Saya no Uta should be OVAs or movies if it's adapted, though
TV adaptation would just be black screens with voices most of the time
>>
>>143294921
very good

He heavily triggers /a/ due to the fact most of his work is Socially Acceptable Anime.

Why did they have to give a her a last name that sounds so close to "ballsack".
>>
>>143304452
This shows he actually does have a silly side/sense of humor to him which is important to highlight. Since most people only ever see him with that stoic look/arms crossed pose, they assume he must take himself/his work very seriously. I don't exactly think that's the case, he just isn't afraid to kill people off and try to have twists.
>>
>>143303215
Kikokugai left me with a bad taste in my mouth

>>143304594
Why?

It's quite undeniable fact that he's the most successful eroge writer.

People who think his works are only edgy and can only repeat "lmao butcher" in response are shitty memesters that aren't actually trying to get anything from the media they consume. He puts genuine ideas and actual meaning into the stuff he writes and that alone makes him better than most writers in the industry even at his worst.

For people who've been following him on twitter for years and read his interviews, they already know that. It's just that Votoms did so much damage to him as a child that the tone of every work of his has to match it, and most of his MCs must be Chirico clones.
