The show always looked really good, so there would be no worry in terms of quality. Its problem was its little to nonexistant romantic progression. I like slow development, but there is such a thing as too slow.
That said, the slow pace of development actually becomes a point of contention later in the manga, so the series isn't totally oblivious to what it is doing.
