I find that most people who caught up to the manga after he left the farm are fine with it. Like any series, reading it one chapter at a time can really make things feel slower than the story pace actually is. Yukimura doesn't take breaks frequently but for a monthly series, a lot of his chapters are under 30 pages long, which enhances this effect.

I think it has gotten better, but it definitely took a dive in quality for some time. I get that the author didn't want it to be Viking Berserk or whatever, but I feel like just selling off Thorfinn as a slave was just boring, and so was most stuff that followed until very recently.
