Light had supernatural entities on his side, used no less than two of them to aid him in his plan to try and dupe L, and L still knew from the very beginning that he was Kira. Light still would have gotten caught as well, because he knew full well that Light wrote some bullshit rules in the Death Note and was going to try it himself just to prove that Light was a lying cunt and was Kira. But then it took even more divine intervention just to bail out that little shit. Also Watari got killed for no reason.
