They decided to go the fanservice route and handwaved it. You might not like it, but it's a valid choice.
Pic related however is not a valid choice. The breast plate is too long and crippling mobility. Its neckline is also ridiculous. The plates in general are too thick and too heavy. They also are not designed to deflect blows away from vulnerable parts. I can't tell exactly what's going on with the wrist joints, but it doesn't seem sensible. Why are the graves split into separate parts? Can she move her feet?
