Why is this anime so overrated. It seems like a pretty average show to me. Not bad just OK. I liked the First OP though. I didn't watch S2.

The first season was ok, but I really liked the second season. It was one of the better shows of the season it aired in. Only Lupin, and Haikyuu were better that season.

I ended up really liking it because before I watched it I thought it would extremely mediocre at best

Its rated accurately
Season 1 only adapts 3 volumes of the manga (there are currently 16) and it has a lot of filler (the endless fall and Rabo arc). Season 2 is much better and it's when things start getting real. And the manga keeps getting better and better.
How is Noragami overrated? If anything, it's underrated. Watch Season 2.

Noragami doesn't have the strongest beginning, but it does get much better, which is what matters. People dismiss it because S1 was rather average and seemed very generic, despite introducing some interesting concepts.
As a manga reader, I can say the best thing about Noragami is its characters and how each one of them is always relevant and always keeps evolving. All characters influence the plot, and viceversa. And the manga art is godly, no pun intended.

I'm in many anime fandoms and the Noragami fanbase is one of the most educated, nicest I've come across. They have excellent speculation, theories and analysis on the series and Japanese mythology. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Noragami is pretty good show, not too overrated or anything. The characters are interesting and likeable and the animation is pretty good. Season 2 was great and the first season wasn't too bad either.
I especially loved the OVAs, they were some of the funniest individual anime episodes I've seen in a long time.

The characters that are actually good are Yato/Yukine/Bishamon
S1 was decent, S2 Bishamon arc was very good and Ebisu arc was good.

The Japanese economy took a real turn for the worse in April 2014. Coincidentally or not I keep arguing late night anime started to get intolerably shitty from the Summer 2014 season on. Abe is set to step down some time in 2018 so if the anime industry suddenly gets it's shit together a season or so after I doubt I'll be able to call it a coincidence anymore. No matter what for unrelated reasons I'm expecting 2017 to be the true rock bottom for TV series and really anime just based on the kind of shit that's lined up as supposed heavy hitting material and will be skipping even keeping up on anime news till at least 2018 again anyway. I might as well just say fuck it till at least a season or two after Abe is out of office and/or the Japanese economy has improved if the industry manages to survive that long without some sort of major upheaval. Noragami should have been 2-cour from the start. As a result of it being 12 episodes, Season 1 was only an introduction. Not only that, but it only adapted Yukine's arc, which left animefags hating Yukine for a long time (and still hating him to this day) when he's actually a cutie pie and one of the most well-developed characters.
