No, the payoff is that Goku ends up being the hero again. Apparently, people prefer Goku more than Gohan and wanted him back. Hence, they made Gohan into a successful scholar that can support his wife and kid, and is a better father than his own father. Man, must suck to be Gohan to be looked up to by his family and making incredible amounts of money.
