I don't think the Chinese/Squad 4 are going to be portrayed as bad guys anymore. All the misdoings were done by Rome/the Newtons, and the Chinese squad essentially had redemption before leaving Mars. We also see Jet in the big, colored spread at the beginning of part 3, so we know they're all alive still.

Really surprised they cut that line out, it made his backstory so much staler and without the manic intensity of how the manga did it (just from memory when I'd first read it.)
It's really sad when S2's directing is many steps down from the first. I imagined that it'd at least be able to get by on the strength of the content it was adapting and the (supposedly) better production and animation, but we haven't even had that, apart from them deciding to finally put in some decent animation in the OP like ten episodes in. Really disappointing.
Then again, the S1 OVAs left out Thien bible quotes and S1 itself decided to cut out some nice gags as well so maybe I'm being unfair.
