Just caught up on the manga here, but if the anime was a 1:1 adaptation then Asahi wouldn't have confessed until season 3. In the condensed version, they left out some good characters and a lot of good jokes. I wanted to see an animated Rin clinging to her grandpa and freaking out half the class.
The character interactions, facial expressions, and slapstick comedy make the manga worth reading and the anime didn't capture that very well.
