It's not to a degree any man would be happy with being accepted. She basically tells him to sit still like a good boy and let the adults do everything until they need his unique biology. What he is striving is for her to acknowledge him as a person in his own right, as worthy of her. That's why you see him striving to become stronger, more reliable and why you see him strive so hard to understand who she really is. Hard enough to break through a fucking window of time or whatever Dana called it.
I mean yeah he's a nuisance now with his confessions, but what about when he beats the MotB? When he saves the world? When he is strong enough to actually protect you? When he understands you intuitively, when he's the only one with a guarunteed lifespan identical to yours? They are essentially the same creature, what he is doing now is basically calling dibs.
