Cowboy Bebop!
It's the obvious choice for the 10/10 anime you should all watch if you haven't. Dubbed of course. I personally shed many manly tears during the series. ;-;7

Just bloody brilliant. I quite enjoyed the balance of hardcore episodes, filler and philosophical episodes. None of the characters are perfect and the script is subtle when it needs to be - just right. I personally watched it in sub though.

I just finished watching it for the hundredth time or something like that last night. Man that ending kicks me in the balls every time. It's so emotionally surreal. I don't think that any anime will be able to do THAT, ever again. I don't mean in an statement of overall quality, I mean that kind of character and that kind of story and emotional impact, those elements will probably never come together in anime again and never be executed as well.
Also I love the way the voice acting changes through the course of the show, it's like the VAs themselves were going through arcs along with their characters. In those last two episodes you can really tell that Steve Blum and Wendee Lee were really into their characters, taking it very seriously, and were aware of the fact that this was no ordinary cartoon. I love Wendee Lee so much, she's so moe, she's my favorite voice actress.
I know you're trying to "do a funny" in order to fit in. I do understand that,we're all newfags at once. But Cowboy bebop actually is the greatest anime ever made. It has yet to be topped and I doubt it ever will be

CB is a good Starter Anime, despite its mature content, as it demonstrates that anime is something other than kids stuff, robots, and porn.
